Privacy issues on chat

Support Support: The proposal was supported.

Users should feel as comfortable as possible while on our chat. To increase the safety of everyone, I suggest we create a rule (or series of rules) that will temporarily or permanently eliminate users from the chat who do not respect the privacy of others.

It is your decision to send personal information about yourself. Chat messages are very easy to copy, screenshot, or keep record of. While we cannot change the actions of users who give away or secretly keep private information, moderators should be able to take action against those who are performing intentional harm with this information upon reaching clear evidence.

Not everyone is so kind with information such as full name, address, or your designated school. We should not and will not stop you from sharing these things, but if you find that you are being harassed or feel uncomfortable, a mod needs to be able to stop whoever is not treating your information with confidentiality.

Support Support: I completely agree. It's not too big of a problem atm, but this is important and should be addressed.

Support Support: Preach it HOA!

I suggest that any user who wants to give personal information should do that in the wiki's chat lovely PM system! Remember follow those classic privacy rules! Classic privacy rules.

Support Support:

Note: I don't think enforcing the rule will help as much as actually pointing out the danger this poses. Instead people need to learn the danger of giving away personal information, which is important in more places than the wiki. For instance I expect a message that new users have to read before entering chat for the first time would save more privacy issues just on its own.

Of course, mods can already temp ban or ban users who are harassing, or disrupting the chat. That's just part of chat moderator responsibility. This isn't a real court of lawyers here, we don't need to present the relevant acts and number code of a rule in order to be able to remove people from the chat. But it wouldn't hurt, so let's do it.

Support Support: If private information is released, many dangers can come along with that, so I'm all for it.
