Avery (クスケチャ, Kusukecha^?) is a cranky eagle villager who features in Animal Forest e+, City Folk, and New Leaf, being absent from Wild World. His name comes from "aviary," a place for keeping birds. His Japanese name is possibly derived from the Cree language word "kuskecha-sew," meaning "black-ish;" referring to his gray colouration. His initial phrase is a cross between the sound an eagle makes and "yee-haw", a common cowboy phrase, relating to his Wild West-style house decor. He has the music hobby.

Appearance

Avery in Animal Forest e+

Avery is a gray eagle with sandy gray-brown patterns across his body. The patterns are similar to that of native-American or Aztec design, where straight lines and block patterns were popular. He has round average-sized eyes that are wide with a black pupil which stares vacantly in his default expression. He has two eyelashes on each of his eyes on the thick black lower rim; one straight out sideways, and one downward. His beak and legs are orange-yellow, and his legs have bands of darker orange-yellow stripes. He initially wears the Uncommon Shirt, which was changed to the Oversized Shawl Overshirt in New Horizons.

Personality

Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Avery will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty, and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature.

House

In Animal Forest e+, Avery has the same house as Lucky, with the only difference being his basement wall. He also has two Dingloids. There is no stereo in Avery's home.

In City Folk, Avery has some tiki torches in his house and his house has a Native American or Mayan feel. He is also fond of desert-themed items, such as cactus and even wallpaper. If he is gifted a stereo, it will play K.K. Condor.

In New Leaf, Avery retains his western motif, but with new furniture. K.K. Condor still plays if he is given a stereo.

In New Horizons, Avery's house is dark brown with a brown latticework door and a black stone roof. The interior has the western vista wall and a shanty mat on the western desert floor. He has a bonfire, two tiki torches, a dried bamboo speaker, a white pond stone, an unglazed dish set, and an unglazed classic pitcher. He also has a stone table and stool.
