“Speaking of hobbies, I think I'll spend today making macaroni art.”
― Caroline, City Folk
Caroline (キャロライン,Kyarorain?, Caroline) is a normalsquirrelvillager in the Animal Crossing series. She originally appeared in the Japan-only release Animal Forest+ and made her international debut in Animal Crossing for GameCube as an islander named Bliss. Following the release of Wild World, she has collectively maintained the name of Caroline throughout the series; this is because of a localization error made by Nintendo of America; this trait is also shared by Sally. The link between the name and the character may have been adhered from sciurus carolinensis, the derived Latin name for the Eastern gray squirrel.
Caroline's appearance has been tweaked slightly since her earlier appearances. Caroline is a dusky pale red squirrel with wavy yellow bangs and large, blue eyes. Her pupils are a darker shade of blue, and she has mint green eyeshadow and winged eyeliner. Her arms and legs are slightly tipped with a cream white, and she has a yellow swirling pinstripe on her tail that matches her hair color. She has a tiny nose that is almost the same color as her face. Her ears are bright red and a peachy, chalky orange on the inside. She initially wears the gelato tee (changed to the striped maxi dress in New Horizons), and carries a beach umbrella on rainy days.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the normal personality. For more information, click here.
Caroline has a normal personality, and frequently acts kind towards the player. Normal villagers generally get along well with lazy, peppy, smug, snooty, and other normal villagers. Caroline may conflict with cranky and sisterly villagers. As a normal villager, Caroline will usually wake up at 6:00 am and is easier to befriend than most. Both normal and peppy villagers reference an unseen friend known as Moppina.
Fruit Allergy[]
As an islander, she had a favorite fruit and a fruit that she is allergic to. Feeding her the allergy fruit would reduce the likelihood of her dropping money bags. Bliss was allergic to oranges and loves cherries.
House[]
In Wild World, Caroline has the ceramic tile flooring and the ocean vista wallpaper. She fills her house with a life ring, a surfboard, a beach chair, a basketball hoop, a candy machine, a red sofa, and a kiddie stereo that plays DJ K.K. She may eventually ask the player for some lovely furniture when she begins to clean out all of her original furniture, leaving her with a low HRA score that she may get depressed over if the player talks to her. Her house's theme might be a reference to what she used on the island in Animal Crossing.
In New Leaf, Caroline's house has changed a bit from her past houses. She now has more of a beach theme, since she has two lawn chairs, four volleyball nets, a big basket of basketballs, and a cassette player on the floor playing DJ K.K. She now has the desert sand as her flooring, most likely trying to capture the feel of a beach, and she keeps the ocean vista as her wallpaper.
In New Horizons, Caroline seems to live in a comic/manga artist's studio, as shown by her general choice in decor, as well as the fact that her wallpaper is the manga-library wall. The center of her room has two office desks put together to form a bigger table that has multiple cartoonist's sets sitting atop it, and it is surrounded by multiple seating options of a black modern office chair, a red den chair, and a white exercise ball. Along the back wall is an ironwood cart holding a fax machine, a red flower stand, and a variant of the autograph cards instead showing various illustrations. In the lower left corner of her room is what seems to be a break or lunchroom area, with a plain sink and a mini-fridge that has a portable radio sitting atop it. She has the wooden-knot flooring and uses a natural mini DIY workbench when crafting.
There's nothing wrong with trying to be at one with nature as long as you can actually handle it. Unfortunately, it seems a little beyond Bliss, but she's always been a little out there...
Caroline's French name is the same as Isabelle's English name.
It's likely that the beta character, シャキ (shakiChestnut?), served as the inspiration for or was an early draft of Caroline's texture in the games prior to Wild World.
In New Horizons, Caroline's preferred styles are Cute/Gorgeous, and her preferred colors are Colorful/White.
