'Sup...with you? Whoof. Sorry 'bout that. I slept fine, but it feels like I pulled an all-nighter, what what.
― Cherry, New Horizons

Cherry (ハンナ, Han'na?, Hannah) is a sisterly dog villager in New Leaf. Her name may come from her fur color, which is a darker pink tone, resembling a cherry. She has the music hobby.

She appears on the album cover for K.K. Fusion.

Appearance[]

Cherry in New Leaf

Cherry is a red dog with teal eyes, a dark gray spot around her left eye, and an off-center mouth (to her left). She has black ears with asymmetrical white markings on each one, which could either be spots or earrings. She has a purple nose. She looks to be possibly wearing fake eyelashes, as her eyelashes are a bit above her eyes. Cherry's legs are black and her paws are gray. She initially wears the spiderweb tee, and carries an elegant umbrella on rainy days. She also has a goth appearance.

Personality

Below is a brief description of the sisterly personality. For more information, click here.

Cherry is a sisterly villager. When befriended, she will give the player fighting tips and teach them ways to relax. Cherry will also give the player medicine if they are stung by a wasp. Like all sisterly villagers, Cherry is tough, but she will still care deeply about her appearance. Cherry has a tendency to stay up very late at night. It is easy to get her picture since developing friendships with sisterly villagers is simple due to her caring and protective nature, sometimes talking to the player about her friendship with her old neighbor's son. Cherry may get along with jock villagers who share her love of sports, lazy and normal villagers for how laid-back they are, and peppy villagers. However, she may conflict with smug and snooty villagers due to their arrogant nature. Cherry may clash with cranky villagers due to their similarly stubborn personalities, but often end up becoming best friends.

House[]

In New Leaf, Cherry's house matches her initial physical appearance, containing items of furniture colored red, black, and white. She has a few items from the sleek series, which are the bed, the dresser, and the table. She owns both a treadmill and an exercise bike, which are on either side of the room, as well as a bromeliaceae plant and a metal guitar. Her sleek table displays both a sleek stereo that plays K.K. Fusion, and a simple kettle. Cherry also has both a simple armchair and a simple love seat. Her wallpaper is the stripe wall, and her flooring is the modern tile.

In New Horizons, she has both a red and white mum cushion, a rose bed, an ironwood DIY workbench, an open-frame kitchen, a beach towel, a whirlpool bath, a cityscape wall, a black wooden deck rug, a bathroom towel, some fragrance sticks, skull-print flooring, a shower set, and an antique table. If the player gives her any kind of music player, she will play K.K. D&B on it.

Trivia[]

  • Different meanings can be found in Cherry's international names:
    • Her English, Dutch, and Russian names, Cherry (RUS: Черри), is a feminine English given name with two etymologies, being either:
      • a diminutive of the biblical name Charity (Latin: Caritas), from the word of same spelling. Most famously the name of Saint Charity (cir. 2nd century CE), third daughter of Saint Sophia of Rome.
      • a "flower name" taken from the fruit of same spelling. The English word cherry derives from Late Latin cerasus, itself from Ancient Greek κερασός (kerasós) with possible origins in Anatolian languages. This is in reference to her predominantly cerise fur color.
        • Her Dutch or Russian names are transliterations; they are not translations of sweet cherry (DUT: kers; RUS: чере́шня (čeréšnja)) or sour cherry (DUT: morel; RUS: ви́шня (víšnja)) into their respective languages.
    • Her Japanese, Korean, and Chinese names, (JPN: ハンナ (Hanna?); KOR: (한나 Hanna); CHN: (花娜 Huānà)) are transliterations of the feminine Hannah (חַנָּה‎ ḥannâ) meaning "favor; grace", or "graced with child". These names are also similarly to the respective languages' words for flower (JPN: はな (hana?); KOR: (화 hwa); CHN: (花 huā)).
      • The Han characters of her Chinese name also have individual meanings
        • huā commonly means "flower; blossom", with "florid; flowery" and "pattern; design" also seeing common use.
        • is used to form female personal names. An alternative reading (nuó) means "beautiful; graceful".
      • Her French name, Anna, is a Latin variant of Hannah, descended from Hebrew through A.Gk. Ἄννα (Ánna).
    • Her Spanish name, Luna, is a feminine name that is the word for "moon" in several Romance languages.
    • Her German name, Bella, is a feminine name that is a diminutive of Romantic names such as Isabella or Arabella, effectively from the Italian word bella "beautiful (woman)". It is also a pun on a verb in German and Southern Dutch, bellen, meaning "to bellow; to bark (like a canine)".
    • Her Italian name, Amarena, is an Italian word for sour cherries (Prunus cerasus), especially as a cultivar grown in Bologna, Italy. This reflects how her fur color is comparable to the light-red cherries of the Amarelle cultivar group. Additionally amarena is a diminutive of amaro, a type of Italian herbal liqueur made from amarenas.
  • Her birthday lies on May 11th, making her a Taurus. This lies on the feast day of Maiolus of Cluny (cir. 906 - 994 CE) who was said to have been able to heal those bitten by dogs or wolves. Additionally, cherries have been known to enter season as early as mid May.
  • She is the only dog villager to have their mouth on the side of their face.
  • She is the only sisterly dog villager.
  • In New Horizons, Cherry's preferred styles are Cool/Elegant, and her preferred colors are Black/Purple.
