Folks keep asking if things are OK. I'll tell ya what's OK! Nothing! Everything in life is real un-OK!
― Clay, New Horizons

Clay (どぐろう, Dogurou?) is a lazy hamster villager who first appeared in New Leaf. His appearance is based on Japanese dogū, which are small figurines made of clay. His picture quote is likely a reference to the 1931 song "Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries". He has the nature hobby.

Appearance[]

Dogu

A Shakōki-dogū (遮光器土偶), or "goggle-eyed dogū" figurine

Clay is a brown hamster. He has a rust-colored, raccoon-like mask around his eyes and light brown eyelids. This resembles the "goggles" of a google-eyed dogū. Although his eyes are closed by default, they can be seen during certain reactions, and are revealed to be completely black with a white pupil. He also has swirly, wisp-like eyebrows and three red dots below each eye. His paws and belly are light brown, with a rusty color around the edges. The insides of his ears are bright teal. Clay wears an Uncommon Shirt in New Leaf, and a orange poncho-style sweater in New Horizons.

Personality

Below is a brief description of the lazy personality. For more information, click here.

As a lazy villager, Clay will be friendly and easy to get along with due to his laid back lifestyle. Like all lazy villagers, he has a love of food and relaxing. He will enjoy partaking in the usual hobbies, usually for relaxing reasons or for food, like when fishing. Clay will get along well with other villagers, but may offend or confuse jock villagers, who have a lifestyle of exercise and fitness, which conflicts with the lazy lifestyle of relaxing and food. He will get along with other lazy villagers with whom he will talk about food, comics, or superheroes. He will also get along well with normal, peppy, smug, and sisterly villagers, and occasionally cranky villagers, but may from time to time annoy snooty villagers, who disagree with the lazy lifestyle.

House[]

In New Leaf, Clay's house seems to be based on an African savannah. He has a fossil, as well as a hammock and a cow skull. There is also a bonfire in the center of the room. His choice of wallpaper and flooring is the garden wall and the western desert. Clay initially owns no stereo, but when he gains one, it plays the song K.K. Safari.

In New Horizons, Clay's house has various pottery, fossils, and wood-burning fires. In the middle of his house, there is a bonfire, likely referencing how Jōmon pottery is thought to have been fired in open fires. In the front of his house, from left to right, there is a stone stool with a pot, an ammonite, a trilobite, a stone stool with a classic pitcher, and a pond stone. In the back of his house, there are two tiki torches surrounding a hay bed. For wallpaper, he uses the dig-site wall, and for flooring, he uses the dig-site flooring. Clay's house has a yellow-orange stucco-style exterior with a light brown straw roof and dark red door.
