Colton is a white horse with a yellow tail and a yellow shag mane outlined in dark gold. His hooves are a deep navy and his muzzle is a light peach. He has small blush marks on his cheeks, light blue on the inside of his ears and blue eyes.
Below is a brief description of the smug personality. For more information, click here.
Smug villagers are very polite, kind, and gentleman-like. As a smug villager, Colton will get along easily with other villagers. Smug villagers get along well with most villagers, their personality appearing to be a mix of the other personality types. As a smug villager he will stroke his ego from time to time, going on about how cool he is.
Colton's house has a very fancy feel to it. He has a Regal Carpet and many items from the Regal Series, which matches his color. There is a Metronome on top of his Regal Table, and a Turntable playing Only Me. He also has a Caladium plant.
In New Horizons, Colton's house has beige and grey brick exterior with an elegant white door and yellow shingled roof. The interior contains mostly white furniture such as a piano, clock, fireplace, and couch, with the exception of a pink lily record player, which plays K.K. Chorale. His wallpaper and flooring are the Palace Wall and Palace Tile, respectively.
Incredibly subtle, but Colton's catchphrase, "check it" may be a reference to Chess, adding his nobleman theming and the rather knightly looking bow on his official image. This may make him the White Knight to Roscoe's Black.
Colton's elegant taste, extravagant personality, stylish blond hair, and ringmaster clothing indicate that he may be a reference to stereotypical male idols, which are a kind of Japanese pop singer who take on exaggerated personalities to appeal to fans. They are often models, as well as actors and singers, which matches Colton's goal. Their hair is often heavily styled and dyed light colours such as blond, and members of idol groups tend to wear customized uniforms with a front laced pattern similar to the ringmaster coat. His catch phrase, "check it", may be a reference to sound checks at a musical performance.
Another theory is that Colton's design and appearance may be strongly inspired by Oscar François de Jarjayes, the main protagonist of the successful shōjo manga series The Rose of Versailles. His blonde spiky mane, blue eyes, androgynous appearance, chivalry attitudes and regal, elegant clothes may all be a reference to Oscar. In addition, he's a white horse, like Oscar's favourite horse.
