Diving was reintroduced to New Horizons as part of Wave 1 of the Summer Update , after being introduced in New Leaf . The player can go diving after purchasing a wetsuit from the Nookstop, in the sea and collect these creatures, which can be donated to Blathers at the Museum, or scallops can be traded with Pascal The otter for DIY recipes . It was part of a free update on July 3rd, 2020.
In New Horizons , the total number of deep-sea creatures is 40, up by 10 from New Leaf . New creatures introduced include the sea pig , slate pencil urchin , moon jellyfish , mussel , whelk , gigas giant clam , umbrella octopus , vampire squid , firefly squid , gazami crab , dungeness crab , sea pineapple , and the Venus' flower basket . Dropped creatures include the ear shell , clam , and the horsehair crab .
While swimming, the player may notice bubbles rising from the seabed, indicating a creature is present. The rate that bubbles are produced relates to the size of the creature, with larger creatures producing more bubbles than smaller ones. By diving onto the creature's shadow on the seabed, the player may capture them.
