Donation to the museum[]

After donating it to the museum, a museum label will give a description of the painting. In New Horizons, the museum label reads:

Ajisai Sōkeizu
Itō Jakuchū, 18th century
Dyed silk

A detailed, colorful, and dynamic piece by Itō Jakuchū, a successful Kyoto artist in the mid-Edo period. High quality paints on silk help it maintain its brilliant color even now, 200 years after its creation.

  • Note: Prior to New Leaf, paintings did not have visual differences between forged and genuine versions. Therefore, paintings given to Blathers were fake or authentic at random.

In New Horizons[]

The plants are purple in the fake painting, while they are blue in the genuine version.

Rooster and Hen with Hydrangeas was one of the works that Itō Jakuchū painted in 1759 as part of his Pictures of the Colorful Realm of Living Beings collection, a series of 27 painted silk scrolls that were presented as a gift to the Shōkoku-ji temple. Much of Jakuchū's work included birds, particularly hens and roosters.
