This bronze sculpture was crafted by the French sculptor Rodin, known as the father of modern sculpture. The incredibly famous original is located in France. The sculpture was casted over 20 times. As such, authentic pieces can be found all over the world.

The statue is placed on the north side of the staircase to the right of the entrance.

The Thinker, known in French as Le Penseur and originally called La Poete, is one of the most famous statues in history and is often used as a symbol for philosophy. It shows a larger-than-life muscular man seated, deep in thought. Auguste Rodin was commissioned in 1880 to create a doorway surround titled The Gates of Hell, for which The Thinker was the centerpiece. Many scholars believe it may represent Dante Alighieri at the gates of Hell in his masterpiece, The Divine Comedy. Rodin was influenced by Michelangelo, shown in the careful attention to detail in human anatomy. It has been cast and recreated numerous times. Because it was originally intended to sit above a doorway, the sculpture and its casts are typically elevated when on display.
