Gyroid Fragments are a type of item found in New Horizons. They were added to the game in the November 5, 2021 2.0 update.

They are dug up from the ground just like fossils, with the distinctive "star" shape marking where they are. Their purpose is to "grow" Gyroids, similar to plants. Gyroid colors can be customized at a DIY Workbench.

How to Find Gyroid Fragments[]

To find these fragments, a player must first speak to Kapp'n, who is located at the end of the pier on the island. Once the player takes their first trip with Kapp'n (which costs 1,000 Nook Miles) they will arrive at a unique island (similar to the Mystery Island Tours). These islands are different than the Mystery Tour islands, though, and no gyroid fragments can be found on regular mystery tour islands.

Once on the island that Kapp'n has dropped the player off at, the player should look around for the same star-shaped crack in the ground that indicates a buried item. There can only be 1 gyroid fragment at each island.

Starting from Version 2.0.4, the fragments can be found washed up on your island's beach.

How to Grow Gyroids from Fragments[]

Brewster explains this process to you when you talk to him the first time. When they return home from the island, the player must bury the gyroid fragment in the ground with a shovel, then plant the fragment in the hole. After that, the player should water the hole they buried the fragment in, creating a small visual "steam" effect. The player must then wait one day and return to the spot where they buried the fragment. When they dig it up, it will have grown into a full gyroid.
