Hamphrey (ハムジ,Hamuji?, Hamji) is a crankyhamstervillager who first appears in New Leaf. He is also the only cranky hamster. His name is a pun on the name "Humphrey", with "Ham" referencing his species. He has the nature hobby.
Appearance
Hamphrey is a small, black hamster with blue paws, eyebrows and a muzzle. He has pink on the inside of his ears, a small red nose and one buck tooth. His eyebrows make him look as though he is a bit angry. He initially wears a Beige Knit Shirt, and carries a Black Umbrella on rainy days.

Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood and are more difficult to befriend than most other villager types. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Hamphrey will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature. Hamphrey will also enjoy spreading rumors about other villagers.
House
Hamphrey's house has a Japanese feel to it. He owns a kotatsu, a tatami bed and two bonsai. He also owns an Exotic Chest, a potbelly stove, and a Retro Stereo that plays K.K. Rally.
