“It's about time you showed up, chimp!”
― Jane, Animal Crossing
Jane (フィーバ, Fever) is a snooty gorilla villager from the Animal Crossing series. She only appeared in the early games of the series. The combination of her name, species and initial catchphrase, "chimp", reference Jane Goodall, a famed primatologist who spent 45 years studying the social and familial interactions of wild chimpanzees in Tanzania.
Appearance
In Animal Crossing
Jane is a purple-skinned gorilla with darker purple fur, pink lipstick, and blue eye shadow. She initially wears the rainbow shirt.
Animal Forest, Animal Forest+, and Animal Forest e+
In the Japanese-only games, Jane was a brown-skinned gorilla with white fur and large-pink lips. She had a spot on the back of her head, with the same color of her fur. The rest is the same as in Animal Crossing. It is often theorized that this change was due to the concern of possible racial tension in the United States. She shares many traits with Cesar and Violet, other gorilla villagers with similar personalities.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the snooty personality. For more information, click here.
As a snooty villager, Jane will appear uptown, classy, and chic. With this, however, she will appear rude, belittling, and snobbish when talking to the player or other villagers in the town, usually criticizing their dress sense or fashion. When talking to the player enough times, she will befriend them but still remain subtly rude. As with all snooty villagers, she has an interest in clothes over other hobbies. She will have problems socializing with other villagers, usually lazy villagers by disagreeing with their choice of lifestyle or getting offended by a jock villager, who has questioned her physical fitness.
House
Jane's house contains a variety of bright furniture. A lovely lamp sits in one corner of the room, while three shirts-a rainbow shirt, a -shirt and an orange tie-die respectively occupy some of the west wall. Heading toward the back of the room, a pop machine sits in the left corner, while an apple TV, retro stereo, and one tulip chair take up the rest of the wall. In front of the chair is a daffodil table. In the center of the room is a cream sofa, with another daffodil table and tulip table in front of it. Jane has a kitschy wall and a kitschy tile. She also has The K. Funk playing on her stereo
Trivia
- Jane's Spanish name is the same as her English name.
- Jane's physical appearance was changed between the Japanese and Western versions to avoid racist implications, as her Japanese appearance has brown skin and pink lips, which can be seen as a stereotypical depiction of black people.
