Kangaroos (カンガルー, Kangarū) are a species of villager in the Animal Crossing series. All female kangaroo characters have joeys in their pouches. The joeys in their pouches will move their mouths at the same time their mother does, as well as mimic other motions and gestures. Kangaroos originate in Australia, lending a theme to some of the villagers' names. All kangaroos were originally female in order to give them all joeys, however, two male kangaroos were added in New Leaf. All female kangaroos' initial catchphrases relate to their joey, i.e. Kitt's initial catchphrase is "child," and Mathilda's is "wee baby." The male kangaroos obviously do not share this feature.
There are eleven kangaroo villagers, of which nine are female and two are male. Three are snooty, three are normal, two are peppy, one is sisterly, and two are cranky. There are no jock, lazy, or smug kangaroos.
Kitt and Mathilda are the only kangaroos to appear in every game to date. Marcy has only appeared in the earliest games, likely due to the similarity between her and another kangaroo villager, Marcie. Valise has likewise only appeared in the earliest games, though it is unknown why she hasn't reappeared.

Trivia[]
- While villagers of different species may mention that they have family such as siblings or parents, female kangaroo villagers are the only villagers to actually be parents.
- The only exception to this is Ike, a bear villager who debuted in AFe+. According to his Japanese e-Card, he is the father of Poko. While Ike has gone on to appear in Welcome amiibo and New Horizons, Poko has remained an AFe+ exclusive villager.
- Though their attitudes towards parenthood are never expressed through their behavior in game, several kangaroo villagers are known to have different approaches due to side information like E-Cards, the Japanese City Folk website, and Pocket Camp profiles. Carrie strongly values that her daughter be independent, Marcy is very strict, Kitt is very concerned about her joey picking up on her bad habits, and Mathilda isn't concerned about her daughter picking up on even her crueler habits and considers their matching attitudes a source of pride.
- Though difficult to notice, none of the joeys have inherited their mother’s stomach or paw textures and have solid-colored fur from the neck down.
- New Horizons is the first game in which the joeys have paws - they are holding on to the edge of their mother's pouch.
