Leap Day is an event that occurs in City Folk and New Leaf. It is celebrated on February 29th of every four years.
In City Folk, a notice will also be left on the Bulletin Board.
In New Leaf, the player is presented with Isabelle upon loading the game. She will remember that it is Leap Day and wonders if any celebrations are planned. Since there are none, she will shout "HAPPY LEAP DAY!" to the player. Isabelle will conclude her speech by wishing the player back in four years. Throughout the day, villagers may bring up leap day during a conversation.

Trivia
- In City Folk, most players would be able to reach their first natural Leap Day in 2012, if playing in real-time (and therefore without time traveling backwards). This is because the American release of City Folk was released in late-2008.
- In New Leaf, players would be able to reach their first natural Leap Day in 2016, if playing in real-time (and therefore without time traveling backwards). This is because all original releases of New Leaf were released on the year 2013.
- In New Horizons, players will be able to reach their first natural Leap Day in 2024, if playing in real-time (and therefore without time traveling backwards). This is because the worldwide release of New Horizons was on March 20, 2020.
