Marcel (もんじゃ,Monja?) is a lazydogvillager in the Animal Crossing series, who first appeared in City Folk. His name and phrase are French. "Non", (which means "no") is a mild joke on the French's way of speaking. It is stereo-typically used at the end of questions e.g. "This shovel is used for digging up fossils, non?". He may be named after Marcel Marceau, a French actor and mime. His name, along with Cousteau's and Gaston's, is French.
Marcel has olive green fur which looks black at times with a painted white face to look like a mime and/or a clown. He has round eyes with light yellow scleroses and a dark pupil in the center of each eye. He has round, dark brown eyebrows, an orange (painted) nose and red (painted on) "whiskers." His hands and feet are also white, making it appear like he painted his face with his hands. His initial shirt is the Chichi print.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the lazy personality. For more information, click here.
As a lazy villager, Marcel will be friendly and easy to get along with due to his laid back lifestyle. Like all lazy villagers, he has a love of food and relaxing. He will enjoy partaking in the usual hobbies, usually for relaxing reasons or for food, like when fishing. Marcel will get along well with other villagers, but may offend or confuse jock villagers, who have a lifestyle of exercise and fitness, which conflicts with the lazy lifestyle of relaxing and food. He will get along with other lazy villagers with whom he will talk about food, comics, or superheroes. He will also get along well with normal, peppy, smug, and sisterly villagers, and occasionally cranky villagers, but may from time to time annoy snooty villagers, who disagree with the lazy lifestyle.
House
Marcel's furniture is Asian-themed. If he acquires a stereo, it will play Comrade K.K.. He has two Samurai suits in his house, Chinese-looking wallpaper and flooring, two Lucky Cats, and a Hearth.
Since his birthday is on December 31st, he is the only villager in the entire Animal Crossing series who will not show up for the New Year's Countdown.
He shares his birthday with Tortimer. They both have a birthday on December 31st.
Marcel's Japanese name suggests that he's from the real life Kanto Region in Japan. It's a reference to 'Monjayaki', a traditional Japanese pan-fried dish that's popular in the Kanto Region. In addition, his Japanese catchphrase can be translated as "can you say that..." in a Kanto Dialect.
As sometimes revealed in New Leaf on Halloween, Marcel is afraid of the Mummy Mask.
