“You're my new best bud!”
― Picture quote, Wild World
Melba (アデレード,Aderēdo?, Adelaide) is a normalkoalavillager in the Animal Crossing series. She first appeared in Wild World. Melba's name may reference the Australian city of Melbourne. Most likely, her name references Melba toast, an Australian/British dish named after the Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba which would explain her catchphrase of "toasty". Her Japanese name references the Australian city of Adelaide.
Melba is a tan koala with a pink and white gradient in her ears. She has a large brown and white nose and small dark violet eyes, as well as a tuft of fur on her forehead. She has small red dots, resembling blush, on both sides of her cheeks and her eyebrows are brown.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the normal personality. For more information, click here.
Melba has a normal personality, and frequently acts kind towards the player. Normal villagers generally get along well with lazy, peppy, smug, snooty and other normal villagers. Melba may conflict with cranky and sisterly villagers. As a normal villager, Melba will usually wake up at 6:00 am and is easier to befriend than most. Both normal and peppy villagers reference an unseen friend known as Moppina.
In New Leaf, Melba's house is different from the past two games. She now has the Green Wall, and the Pastel Dot Rug. She has many items from the Minimalist series, such as the vanity, the lamp, the sofa, and the dresser. She also owns two Modern Wood items: the bed and the shelf. A picnic table is in the center of her room, and a fan palm is placed next to her Minimalist sofa. She displays a baby bear on top of her Modern Wood Shelf, and plays K.K. Ragtime on her jukebox.
The woman who is possibly Melba's namesake, Dame Nellie Melba, had the Peach Melba dessert, Melba sauce, Melba garniture, and Melba toast named after her. The latter of which may have inspired Melba's catchphrase, "toasty".
Melba's catchphrase may also be in reference to how hot the temperature can get in Australia.
