Monkeys (サル, Saru) are a species of villager in the Animal Crossing series, introduced in Wild World. There are ten monkey villagers, of which six are male and four are female, with three being jock, two being lazy, one being snooty, one being cranky, one being normal, one being sisterly, and one being peppy and two monkey special characters, both of which are male. There are no smug monkeys.

In their first appearance in Wild World, monkeys could only appear in the player's town via Nintendo Zone download, though this changes in all subsequent games and monkeys appear under normal circumstances. However, they do not appear in the city in City Folk, but do appear in Main Street in New Leaf.

Monkeys have the rare occurrence of having both villagers and special characters. This likely began due to Porter being removed post Animal Crossing, but returning in New Leaf.
