Monkeys (サル, Saru) are a species of villager introduced in Wild World. In that game, they could only appear in one's town through being downloaded at Nintendo Zones (official Nintendo hot spots for DLC distribution), but in City Folk and New Leaf, they appear under the same circumstances as regular villagers, and do not need to be downloaded into the game. They are not to be confused with gorillas. They cannot be found in the City in City Folk. There are no smug monkeys.
