" Yayyy! I got the golden net. I'd better take care of it! ♥" —City Folk

Nets are a type of tool that have been available throughout the Animal Crossing series. They are used to catch bugs.

Usage

Official New Horizons render of a player with a net.

A net is used to catch the large variety of bugs found throughout the series, either on the ground, in the water, in the air or on trees. When pressing A, the net will swing in front of the player, if the net strikes an insect, the player will catch it. In Animal Crossing, Animal Forest, Animal Forest e+ and New Leaf, the player can hold down the A button to creep while a net is equipped, which is useful for catching more evasive bugs that are easily startled. The startling is visible and can be further prevented by staying still.

In later games where silver and gold varieties of net are introduced, the improved tools make it easier by increasing the range of the net to allow for a better chance of catching a bug.

Striking flowers will cause the petals to fly, though it does no actual damage to them. Striking a villager three times with a net will prompt an immediate reaction and make them angry or upset.

  • In New Leaf, hitting villagers with a net while in online mode won't make them angry, nor make them react in any way.
