“... You're asking me why the sun won't set today?”
― Phil, New Leaf
Phil (ケイン,Kein?, Cain) is a smugostrichvillager who made his first appearance in New Leaf. His Japanese name comes from the word "cane", a reference to an ostrich's long, skinny neck, or keen, an onomatopoeia for a male pheasant's call, which could perhaps be further supported by his initial phrase.
Although classified as an ostrich due to his model, Phil's appearance is based on the Japanese green pheasant, mainly from his red "wattles", indigo-colored head/neck, and green torso. He has brown and golden feathers on his wings and tail. Both his beak and legs are white. In New Leaf his legs and feet are striped in gray, while in New Horizons, only his legs are striped. Phil initially wears a Dawn Tee. In New Horizons, he wears a Fischerhemd.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the smug personality. For more information, click here.
Smug villagers are very polite, kind, and gentleman-like. As a smug villager, Phil will get along easily with other villagers. Smug villagers get along well with most villagers, their personality appearing to be a mix of the other personality types. Smug villagers will stroke their egos from time to time, going on about how cool they are.
Generally, Phil will get along with lazy, normal, snooty, and peppy villagers, and may conflict with cranky villagers.
House[]
In New Leaf, Phil's house is very modernly themed and is somewhat feminine, with four pieces from the Minimalist Series, the table with the tea set on top, the minimalist table with a porcelain model, the dresser with the porcelain teapot, and the vanity. He has Steep Hill playing on his High-End stereo and a house plant. He has the Kitschy Wallpaper and the Round Carpet as his choice of wallpaper and flooring.
Phil's house is again somewhat minimal in New Horizons but has undergone several notable changes. He now has strikingly red wallpaper and flooring and uses multiple pieces from the Rattan Set. An Imperial Partition can be seen at the foot of his bed, along with a Phonograph (playing K.K. Moody) in the upper right.
Phil bears a slight resemblance to Falco Lombardi from the Star Fox series (who is based on both a pheasant and a falcon). This may be further evidenced by his home requests in Happy Home Designer and Happy Home Paradise.
In New Horizons, Phil's preferred styles are Cool/Elegant, and his preferred colors are Green/Red.
