The sea pig, scientifically known as Scotoplane, is a deep-sea dwelling sea cucumber. Measuring about four inches, these pinkish creatures navigate using tube-like legs and feelers. They feed on detritus from decaying carcasses. Their skin contains poison, serving as a deterrent to predators. If brought within 4,000 feet of the ocean's surface, their bodies turn into a gelatin-like substance.

In New Horizons[]

Upon donation or selecting "Tell me more about this!", Blathers the curator will say:

"Never have I seen a creature that walks the line between creepy and cute quite like the sea pig does. Sea pigs are, in fact, a type of sea cucumber that lives deep down on the ocean floor. About four inches long, these soft pinkish oddities use tube-like legs and feelers to get around. Thus they sniffle through the mud, slurping up particles from decaying carcasses. Meanwhile, predators be warned... This little piggy tastes like poison."

Main article: Scotoplanes on Wikipedia

The Scotoplane, also known as a sea pig, are a subspecies of sea cucumber that live in the deepest, darkest, coldest parts of the ocean, as deep as 4 miles underneath the ocean surface. As the name suggests, they look like pink gummy pigs, but with no eyes, many legs and near-transparent bodies. As a scavenger, sea pigs scour the sea floor for an easy meal, particularly dead whales or any other decaying matter than sank to the bottom of the ocean. Unlike most animals, sea pigs don't have any natural predators. This is due to the sea pig's skin being laced with poison. As an added note, if sea pigs are ever removed from their natural habitat and brought within 4,000 feet from the ocean's surface, their bodies would disintegrate into a pile of a faux gelatin-like substance. Making it hard for scientists to have the opportunity to study this deep-sea dweller.
