Stationery (びんせん binsen?), sometimes referred to as paper, can be used to write letters to other residents in the town. Different stationery can be bought at Tom Nook's store, but if a previously unowned paper is given to the player by means of a letter, it is automatically added to the catalog. This method of obtaining new stationery does not work in City Folk.
All stationery costs 160 bells, with the exception of elegant paper, which costs 800 bells in City Folk and New Leaf. Melody paper is a new type of paper found in New Leaf.

City Folk Stationery[]
There are 68 pieces of stationery to collect in City Folk. Normal stationery now has to be bought from Nook's Store unlike the previous two games.
New Leaf Stationery[]
In New Leaf, there is a total of 65 pieces of stationery to collect. All stationery is bought at Nookling Stores for 160 Bells, and sells for 40 Bells (if selling all four sheets of stationery), unless otherwise stated.

The following paper cannot be ordered from Timmy & Tommy's store catalog, or bought from their store. The only ways to obtain these stationery is through the mail as a gift from a villager. Because of this they are considered very rare. These papers are normally only used by special characters.
