Upgrading the store does NOT require internet connection!!!
It does require a person to come there to visit, but all you need are 2 systems, 2 copies, and you can visit yourself locally (no need for the internet to connect a DS to a DS), buy something, and viola! This internet connection stuff is clearly false, as any convention or such where strangers who play this game can interact works just fine- or get a second used copy like I did, buy something from yourself, then boom, you've got the store!
