Wiimmfi is a 3rd party software that allows users to play online on the Wii and DS after the shutdown of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It can be used to play Wild World and City Folk online, as well as hundreds of other Wii games.

Installing Wiimmfi on Wii[]

There are two methods to installing Wiimmfi on the Wii. One involves changing the numbers of the DNS server in the Wii internet settings and selecting the option to the Wii Network services agreement, which once clicked, the Wiimmfi patcher instructs users to wait 1-2 minutes. Once the patch is applied, users must insert their game disc and are now to free to play online on previously online defunct Wii games. The second method to installing Wiimmfi requires users to have the Homebrew Channel installed on their Wii. Users must download the Wiimmfi patcher on a computer and then transfer the files to their Wii's SD card. Once the files are on the SD card and the SD card is back in the Wii, users must go to the Homebrew Channel, and find the Wiimmfi patcher. After, all they have to do is insert their game disc and now users can play online on previously online defunct Wii games. It is possible to install Wiimmfi on the Wii U. Players must have the Homebrew Channel installed on the Wii U. Players then must install the Wiimmfi patcher on their SD card, insert the SD card into the Wii U, select the Homebrew Channel, select the Wiimmfi patcher, and the game that is inserted in the disc slot will start.

Installing Wiimmfi on Nintendo DS/DSi[]

There is only one method to use Wiimmfi on the Nintendo DS/Nintendo DSi, which involves changing the network DNS in the Communication Settings. In order to add a compatible network, it must have a WEP or no type of security in order to be compatible with games. Once this is done, you must change the DNS from Automatic to Manual and adding the provided DNS Number. After saving, Wiimmfi will now be setup and can be used on games such as Wild World and more.

Use in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Wild World[]

If players want to play online with other players, they still need to use the original friend code system even if Wiimmfi is installed. Each player need to add each other's friend codes before they can go visit each others' towns. However, if a user has a friend code they were issued before the shutdown of Nintendo WFC, they may experience issues with Wiimmfi. The only way to generate a new friend code is to delete the player's town and create a new town. A friend code can be given by talking to Copper at the town gate and selecting the option "Friend code!". Copper will then issue the player a unique friend code over Wiimmfi connection. When using Wiimmfi, users must ask Copper to open the gates or if the player wants to visit another town. The Wii will then connect to the Wiimmfi patcher, or the DS/DSi will connect to the Wiimmfi Servers. After that, players are free to use online functions again.
