Wood is a crafting material in New Horizons. It is obtained by chopping trees with an axe. There are 3 types of wood in game: wood, hardwood, and softwood.

Obtaining

Using an axe, the player can chop a fully grown tree to produce wood. With the exception of bamboo trees, any tree may be chopped to produce wood. If using a flimsy or stone axe, the tree will be able to produce three pieces a day. If using a sturdy axe, the tree will produce two pieces, but on the third hit the tree will produce another piece of wood and then fall over. There is a 33% chance of the tree dropping each of wood, hardwood, and softwood. When chopped, fruit trees bearing fruit will drop all their fruit, as well as the first piece of wood. If there are no empty tiles near the tree, chopping the tree will not produce wood until space is available.

Uses

Wood is a key component of many furniture pieces as well as some tools.

Timmy will ask the player for 30 pieces of wood, hardwood, and softwood in addition to other materials for the construction of Nook's Cranny.

Wood can be sold in Nook's Cranny for 60 bells each.

Tools and Utility Items

Wood is used to upgrade the Flimsy Axe into both the stone axe and axe. Hardwood is used to craft the Flimsy Shovel. Softwood is used to craft the Flimsy Watering Can and the vaulting pole. All 3 types of wood are used to craft the ladder.

Hardwood is needed to craft the simple DIY workbench. All 3 types of wood are needed to craft the Mini DIY workbench.
